Hello. I'm Stuart, a professional WordPress developer based in Bristol. I provide a freelance web design & build service to agencies and direct to businesses.

Website design & build

I design and build complete WordPress websites from the ground up.  Advanced functionality including custom-built Gutenberg blocks, ecommerce, onsite donations, estate agent listings and more.

A WordPress theme from your design

I can build a WordPress theme from your XD, Figma or Photoshop visuals. I have a background in graphic design which allows me to build websites that recreate your design as faithfully as possible.

Built to a high standard

All websites are tested prior to launch on current popular PC and Mac browsers. I also test multiple screen sizes and mobile devices. On completion I provide a video tutorial demonstrating how to add and edit content.

I’ve been involved in some excellent projects during the last couple of years. Two design/builds for estate agents, an animal rescue centre, a community health worker charity, a premier bathroom brassware company, a product design company, and many more.

The majority of my work is on behalf of agencies, so I don’t display it on my website. Please get in touch for URLs of recent projects. Some of my direct-to-client projects are shown below.

WordPress plugins

I use as few plugins as possible on my builds, typically for advanced functionality such as ecommerce, onsite donations, contact forms, etc. I use tried and tested plugins with a good reputation.

This keeps my websites lean, efficient and fast. It also means my websites are more future proof – if plugins become discontinued or outdated, it can be time-consuming and costly to update them. I often use the following plugins in my builds:

Advanced Custom Fields Pro

I use ACF Pro for custom meta boxes. I also use it to build custom Gutenberg blocks. This allows content editors to create great looking landing pages in minutes.

The industry standard for ecommerce websites – I wouldn’t consider using anything else. I have a number of scripts to enhance and extend functionality.

Gravity Forms

I mainly use Gravity for enquiry forms and advanced functionality such as user registration and approval, front-end post creation, etc. I’ve also used Contact Form 7, Forminator and WP Forms for various clients.

I use GiveWP for onsite donations. It has excellent support and is easy for clients to use. Setting up multiple fundraising campaigns is quick and intuitive.

I have experience in customising the appearance and functionality of forums with bbPress – the forum plugin from the creators of WordPress.

All-in-One WP Migration

I use All-in-One for back-ups and migration. I have a pro licence which allows the upload of unlimited sized databases. I’ve moved many large websites without any problems.

Yoast SEO

I typically install Yoast SEO so clients can add meta descriptions, page titles, etc. I’ve also used other plugins such as Rank Math if the client has a preference.

I’ve built a couple of websites for estate agents using the PropertyHive plugin. It has a wealth of features and add-ons that provide all of the typical functionality required.

WP All Import

Ideal for importing and exporting large amounts of content from CSV files. It’s particularly useful for importing lots of WooCommerce products and their associated data.

Fast, user-friendly websites

Achieving high scores for both desktop and mobile on Google’s page speed insights is tricky, but possible. I can build sites that are capable of achieving 90+ scores – for example, see the visuals below for this website.

Note, it’s not always possible to achieve top scores on some websites – certain functionality, plugins and scripts will erode the score. However, my sites are still blazing fast regardless of Google’s page speed score.

I’m always interested in hearing from agencies in need of freelance support.
